What were you trying to do?
Print on a printer, lpq a printer
What's wrong:
It's taking an awful long time. It has been suggested that this was the
cause of some print server ignoring lpr if it's timing out. This is on
the EECS terminal room in 38-344, on norman-spinrad, bixby, and aldiss.
Without more details than this, there isn't much we can do to help.
For example, how long is "an awful long time?" Did the lpr and lpq
commands eventually work, or did you give up and abort them? Was
system performance in general slow when this happened, or was printing
the only thing that was slow?
In any case, it sounds to me like an intermittent problem that we
probably aren't going to be able to reproduce, so unless you can give
us something more definite to work on, I'm afraid there isn't much we
can do.
