vax 7.0: emacs problems

While looking at message 2085 in my inbox with mh-e, I accidentally dropped
something on a couple of keys on the keyboard. The cursor (in the +inbox
window) moved to message 2031, displayed at the top of the window. (The
line for the current message is generally centered when possible; I wasn't
viewing 2031, it still showed 2085.)
I typed "C-h l" to see what had gotten entered to do this, and was presented
with the minibuffer message "Wrong type argument: natnump, #<EMACS BUG:
ILLEGAL DATATYPE (#o 53) Save your buffers immediately and please report
this bug>".
A subsequent "C-h l" shows "ESC [ 3 2 ~" -- F18 -- without an error message.
I was able to save my changes and quit without problems, but it said to
report it....
