I went back to insert some extra text in a line I'd typed
already. Up to Monday this would automatically push words from the
end of the line down to the next line and so forth, thus refolding the
paragraph. This time it pushed the line off the right end of the
screen, sort of the way emacs does if you don't set autojustify.

This is the correct behavior of xmh under X11R4 (meaning the behavior
that the X Consortium intended xmh to exhibit, although it is
debatable whether or not it is the "right thing to do").

If you want to reformat a paragraph which you have edited, type M-q or
ESC q in the xmh window after making the changes, just like in emacs.

If yuou want xmh to automatically wrap text so that it doesn't run off
the right side when you are composing messages, then put this in your
.Xresources file:

	xmh*comp.wrap:	word

If you want xmh to automatically wrap text so that it doesn't run off
the right side when you are viewing messages, then put this in your
.Xresources file:

	xmh*view.wrap:	word
