Jim Fulton gave me a fix that I can live with that re-enables linefeed
and backspace where I have come to expect them. We might want to
consider incorporating this keymapping as our installed default. At
the very least we must document that VSII users won't get linefeed and
backspace where they expect in release 6.0.
Here is the fix:
Run the following shell script exactly once each time you start X:
xmodmap - <<EOF
keysym F12 = BackSpace
keysym F13 = Linefeed
EOF
