XSaber-C (probably terminal saber as well) says this when an archive
has an out-of-date table of contents:
Bad magic number in '/afs/athena.mit.edu/astaff/project/k
rb5/vax-cc/lib/libkrb5.a'
It should give a message more like ld's, which says "table of contents
out of date; rerun ranlib(1)..."
