What were you trying to do?
Print all 74 files in one of my Mail directories.

lpr: Mail/kkkken/67: not linked, copying instead
lpr: cannot create /tmp/df003CALIBAN.MIT.EDU

My default printer is set:
PRINTER=nil
What's wrong:
It printed the directory successfully when I gave lpr smaller
chunks to handle: ie, lpr 1* 2* 3* worked, then lpr 4* 5*, then lpr 6* 7*.
What should have happened:
It should have queued all 74 files in that directory, the first
time, or else it should have given me an error message that made sense.
