From: lwvanels@ATHENA.MIT.EDU
Date: Thu, 19 Apr 90 12:39:11 -0400
To: bugs@ATHENA.MIT.EDU
System name: m14s-010-2
Type and version: CVAXSTAR 6.4R
Display type: SM
What were you trying to do?
Use attach to mount a filesystem over another
What's wrong:
This is easiest to explain by example:
m14s-010-2 /#cd /mit
m14s-010-2 /mit#ls
gnu/ lwvanels/ olc-stock/
m14s-010-2 /mit#mkdir sipb
m14s-010-2 /mit#touch sipb/test
m14s-010-2 /mit#attach sipb
sipb: /mit/sipb is a non-empty directory.
sipb: NFS mounted cyrus.MIT.EDU:/u2/lockers/sipb on /mit/sipb (read-only)
^^^
m14s-010-2 /mit)ls sipb

NeXTbin/ bitmaps.x10/ lib/ rtbin/ vaxbin/
NeXTetc/ bitmaps.x11/ lost+found/ rtetc/ vaxetc/
NeXTlib/ doc/ man/ rtlib/ vaxlib/
m14s-010-2 /mit# hesinfo sipb filsys
AFS /afs/athena.mit.edu/contrib/sipb r /mit/sipb
NFS /u2/lockers/sipb cyrus r /mit/sipb
What should have happened:
It shouldn't have mounted any filesystem at all over the non-empty
directory /mit/sipb; specifically, it shouldn't have attached the
backup version of this locker.
