attach without tickets succeeded

On Scarecrow, an RT running 6.4R, I typed:
scarecrow>attach moiradev
moiradev: AFS mounted /afs/athena.mit.edu/astaff/project/moiradev on /mit/moiradev (read-write)

and was led to believe this attach was successful. Yet I had
rlogged-in to scarecrow from somewhere else and didn't have kerberos
tickets, so this attach had failed to authenticate. Attach should
have *at*least* printed a warning, if not failed outright for an
attempt to attach a read-write filesystem without tickets.
