What were you trying to do?
Under release 6.3B, I had created a .mwmrc file to provide me with a
custom menu. One of the things I could do from this menu was call up xpix
backgrounds to be placed in my root window.
What's wrong:
This spring when I logged on, I noticed I was no longer able to get
backgrounds. I got the error message 'xpix//xroot not found' even though I used xpix/$bindir/xroot which worked fine under 6.3B. Neither 'machtype nor
{$hosttype} worked either. Interestingly enough, {$hosttype}bin worked fine for the initial background called from .environment.
What should have happened:
My xroot background should have been replaced without an error message.
Under Release 6.3B a process number would appear in my 'tty' window. In release 6.4R
however, no message should be in my 'tty' screen. Note that when I copied the xroot
programs into bin directories of my own (i.e. ~/$bindir) everything worked fine.
