Perhaps the meaning of /etc/nocreate should be reconsidered. Right now it
seems to have the effect not only of prohibiting users who don't have
/etc/passwd entries from logging in, but preventing the encrypted password
to replace * in the password field (I ran into this problem with xscreesaver
a while back) as well as preventing the /etc/group file to be updated with
new information when necessary. All it should really do is prevent the loggin
in of unauthorized users, yes?
