Killing the window manager destroyed window focus for all windows:
the command sequence was "ps","kill -9 #####" (the pid for
mwm); the windows responded to the mouse bound line editing
commands, but not much else; the cursor wasn't even
highlighted in the startup window, and there was no way to
bring up the console.
