I would like to install a new version of tn3270 in a locker named 'supercomp'
(see attached message). The version Athena runs is not compatable with
the Cornell supercomputers.

As I am not well versed in makefile bugs and alterations, I was hoping you
could help me with the installation. When I tried to install it, the make
exited with an error.

----------------------------Original message----------------------------
There is a new release of Berkley tn3270 software available. A new
feature allows users to toggle binary mode, which is useful in running
graphics programs where ACSII control characters are sent to a graphics
terminal for graphics control. The previous version of tn3270 could not
pass ASCII control characters as user data because it used them for its
own data stream.

You can get a compress, tar file of the code from devvax.tn.cornell.edu
Login: anonymous password: guest. The file is in pub/tn3270. It's
called tn3270.tar.Z

If you want to try it, log in to tcgould.tn.cornell.edu. Use it
just like any other version of tn3270, but in this case, use the version
called tn3270.new in directory /usr/new. For example, to toggle binary
mode after logging in to cornellf, hit ctrl-c, this will put you back at
the tn3270 prompt. At this point you would type "toggel binary".

We should have this new version installed on tcgould this week, then
you'll only have to type tn3270 to use it. Once this is in place, you
can read the "man" page on it by typing "man tn3270".
