Bug #1 (TeX templates)
The template in the "thesis" locker does not quite conform to MIT thesis
specifications. I will shortly have one that better conforms to the
course VI standard, and it should be fairly easy to check to see if this
conforms to the general MIT standard (I believe the two are quite
similar).
Some of the problems I encountered are:
- The signature line was a dotted line; the standard template for Scribe
and all examples show it to be a solid line.
- The position for the author's signature is far removed from the other
signatures on the page.
- The spacing for the "Submitted to <department> in Partial ..."
paragraph was much tighter than most examples.
- The right margin was slightly less than 1.0 inches, because it was
quite possible for text to slightly overflow the hbox. The fix was
to define the pagewidth to be a fraction less than it had previously
been defined.
- The abstract page also did not conform to the examples shown.
- The copyright notice, though in wording was correct, did not
appropriately state the initials of M.I.T.
I will check to see the exact differences between the Scribe and TeX
thesis templates after I have completed my obligations (finishing my
thesis) and let you know if the template I have is identical to the
Scribe template. If so, I would suggest that a copy of my template be
placed in the "thesis" locker to save others the agony of what I just
did.
Bug #2 (README file)
1. "please" is not spelled "[;ease]".
2. Use "bugs@ATHENA.MIT.EDU" not "bugs@athena" (who knows what host the
user may be on).
3. "Tex" should be "TeX"
4. "various" is not spelled "varius"
Good going... 4 errors on 7 lines of text.
