compress or uncompress munged my approx. 35 MB file.
on a standard athena vaxstation 3100, Mon Dec 18 01:56:24 EST 1989
in particular, it trashed some of the middle of the file and left the file
shorter than before. this has happened to me twice now but sadly i can't
reproduce it because the original file is now GONE (grrr).
i still have the file on 9 track tape, though, if you want to verify my
claim. or, if you give me 40 meg online storage for a few weeks, i'll put
the file online for you.
