Problem Description
-------------------
Severity Level:
Severe -- represents a problem which resulted in software functionality
limitation but had alternative work-around.
Date of First Occurrence:
11/16/89
One Line Description:
Alt-SPACEBAR fails to pop up the window menu on an RT.
Full Description:
Alt-SPACEBAR (or Meta<Key>space, to be precise) is bound to
"f.post_wmenu" in the system.mwmrc file. On the RT, however, mwm fails
to catch this sequence, and simply passes the keystrokes through to the
client window.
Repeat By:
Try Alt-SPACEBAR on an RT and watch it fail. Or, try it while
the mouse pointer is over an emacs window, and watch the emacs pick up
on the Alt-SPACEBAR sequence.
I believe that this is actually the fault of the X server
(Xibm), since running a VAX mwm client on an RT Xibm server failed the
same way. This would seem to indicate that the fault is not with mwm,
but with Xibm.
Proposed Solution:
Unknown. Temporary solution, for Athena, at least, is to leave
the Alt-spacebar binding out of the standard keybindings to acheive
consistency on its platforms. This will be the set-up under Athena
release 6.4.
