Hi,

I noticed a user logging out in this manner: He was using uwm. He
brought up the "Kill Window" option up from the popup menu. And then
clicked the "Kill" finger on the console window. This logged him out
in a flash (which everybody would love) and the toehold whipped up in
a matter of seconds. I told him not to do that -- but then I realized
there really isn't any rule against it. So I did a console login
(control-p) and looked at the users remaining processes. He had an
xsession,. session_gate, and one other (x-related).

When I got the xlogin box, sure enough -- the bad pty errors appeared.
Beth Kevles said I should send this here, so there it is.
