I've also sent this by "s" suggest in help
I'm not sure if I send this to you or what. But look at this form help:
5 communicating with...
then:
3 Network news
then:
3 Accessing...
It says to add:
attach sipb
set path=($path /mit/sipb/`machtype`bin)
to the .login.mine file.
Actul helptext:
Accessing Netnews on Athena
To read netnews on athena you need to create a specially formatted list of the
newsgroups kept in a file called .newsrc, and select a news reader.
The .newsrc file maintains a list of the newsgroups you are subscribed to and
information as to what messages you have or have not read in your newsgroups.
See "Subscribing to Newsgroups" for information on how to construct or obtain
a .newsrc file.
A news reader is a program that actually lets you read the messages. The news
readers available on athena include rrn, xrn, and gnus. They are kept in the
sipb filesystem. To access them you must
% attach sipb
% set path=($path /mit/sipb/`machtype`bin)
(Make sure that you use the backwards quote)
To avoid having to do this each time you login and want to read news, you can
place these commands in your .login.mine file. To do this, edit or create the
file .environment with emacs. Insert the following lines
# Attach the sipb locker
attach sipb
set path=($path /mit/sipb/`machtype`bin)
and save your file. These lines will now be automatically read when you
login.
The available news readers are discussed in detail under News Readers.
Briefly,
rrn the standard unix news reader
xrn a mouse/X based interface
gnus an emacs interface
THIS IS WRONG!!
well, somehwat. I had two users who had gotten their initilization
screwed up because they put the above instruction in their .login.
Hope this can be fixed soon.
