mwm icons and `*' in window title

I have my prompt set up in my .tcshrc file such that an rlogin session
from an xterm will produce an escape sequence that puts "${host}*:%d"
into the title of the window, so I can see at a glance the hostname
and working directory. However, the icons mwm produces do not get the
"*" in them. I don't know if the problem is in sending the string to
xterm, xterm sending it to the window manager, or mwm displaying it...
