xclock -digital does not show the time zone.
if you change the TZ environment variable this information is
important. i reckon it should look something like the output of the
'date' command:
55 garp ~ --> date
Tue Oct 10 18:36:36 EDT 1989
56 garp ~ --> setenv TZ GMT
57 garp ~ --> date
Tue Oct 10 22:36:40 GMT 1989
this is true for X11R3 on BSD platforms.
