I had some trouble logging out last night, until I found that the znol
(run in foreground in my .startup.X) had hung. It took me a while to
locate the problem - I was almost ready to reboot the workstation to log
out.

What should have happened:

1. znol should have exited
2. It should be possible to kill your login process (xsession?) more
easily, in order to log out.
3. If you haven't completely logged in, then when you try to logout, you
should IMMEDIATELY get some sort of message indicating that there's a
problem. (It was at least a minute - I think more - before I was informed
that I couldn't log out. Were I using a workstation in a public cluster,
and not been chatting with people in my office, I probably would have left
and never known that I hadn't logged out. Ie, security breach.)

My dot files should all be publicly readable. I don't use xlogout.
