Hi! I'm a 6.821 TA, and we're using Scheme on Athena for some
labwork. Recently you changed /mit/scheme/vaxbin to contain
some modified versions of Scheme. Unfortunately, they do not
interact with Emacs in an appropriate way - in particular, it
isn't possible to break out of an error or an infinite loop
with either C-c g or C-c C-c in the new system.

The problem (as far as I can tell) is that you didn't update
the scheme.el and xscheme.el files in /mit/scheme/dist/etc
to match the new version of Scheme. I have copied the most
recent versions of these files from zurich.ai.mit.edu (the
scheme ditribution machine) and put them in /mit/6.821.
When I load these files into Emacs and run /mit/scheme/vaxbin/scheme,
eveything works fine. You might want to update /mit/scheme/dist/etc
to contain the newer versions of these files.

By the way, /mit/scheme/ATHENA.README is only readable by the owner.

Finally, is there some mailing list for scheme users on Athena that
would warn me about the kinds of system changes that took place recently?
If so, I'd like to be on it. It's hard to use something like Scheme
in a course when it changes (unannounced!) under your feet.
