no initial xterm

This is weird,and I'm afraid I don't have much info about it. In the
olc logs, there was a user with standard dot file, who's initial xterms
never came up. I watched him log in several times on a couple different
machines, and it DID show the "starting initial xterm" message, but
the xterm never showed. I took a look at his dot files, and there was
no skip initial xterm set (obviously since the message came to the
console)
It's been a while, and I was informed just today that I should have
reported it, so I'm very sorry for the delay and lack of username.
