User with TWO accounts

Both these accounts belong to the same guy. His username was "lud"
originally. When he came back from summer, he had forgotten his old
password, so he registered for a new account under the username
"luddy". For some reason, this worked.
I used the Register program and typed in his information and the
username it returned was "luddy".
I am going to go ahead and file a password change request for his old
account. Will someone please take a look at this? He says he would
prefer to keep the old account, username "lud".
