I am running the 6.3B stafftest, NFS packs from Chiroptera, on a VS2000.
I have take care to construct new dot files as per the Cunningham
document.
My workstation still fails to deactivate after logout. Filesystems
are not detached. Multiple entries corresponding to various xterms
remain in /etc/utmp.
The only way I can get the workstation to deactivate after I log out
is to log back in as root and do "cp /dev/null /etc/utmp".
I thought this was a fixed xterm bug...
My workstation really runs *MUCH* slower than it did under 6.2A. Not
only does it take longer to log in, but the responsiveness of the
window system is sluggish at best. Is this a function of the way I
get the system packs or have the changes to X and the way the window
system is used really dragged things down?
If the trend keeps up, I might switch to using a Macintosh for e-mail
and the console mode of the vaxstation for my network diagnostic
needs! If I hit return on the vaxstation and turn on the power switch
on the Macintosh at the same time, the mac is ready for work before I
can even log in to the workstation. There is someting wrong here.
