Now that the new simpler login banner comes up, it is hard to know what
is meant by:

    Xsession returned non-zero status.

    Select SystemDefault when you login.

What was happening was that my .xsession was running my .login (which
was correct behavior until our re-conceptualization of the universe).
The system .login is designed to exit with non-zero status if it is
being called from inside a .xsession. (Do we WANT it to blow up in
these cases? Must we always blow up user's programs simply because they
no longer fit our model of how they should now be written? The new
separation of X and non-X operation is good, but I question the wisedom
of introducing new concepts by increasing user frustration. It's been
the hallmark of Athena to do so for too long!)

Anyway, there is no "System Default" login to select. The error message
will have to be made longer: "Select a "non-standard" session, and
select the SYSTEM option to ignore your failing .xsession."
