i've run into three distinct sorts of failures, as follows:
-> on my RT which receives pack service from the AFS cell, using the
ordinary session, i find that xlogout gripes about some (presumably
lock) file in /tmp not being present. it destroys all the windows on
the display save for the console (which can not be 'hidden' anymore),
and the xlogin dialogue box never re-appears. the logout button here
appears in the *opposite* corner of my display (wrt where it appears
on my vaxstation display).
-> on the same RT, running the system standard session, i find that
xlogout fails in another way which i can't describe just now
(something about session_gate not having been run; exact text may
follow...)
-> on my RT which receives pack service via NFS using the ordinary
session, i am able to logout without incident (but refer to earlier
reports wrt soft link to a particular resources file pointing to the
wrong place .. as a result, the logout button looks stupid and may
require positioning with the mouse).
-> on my VAXstation which receives pack service via NFS using the
ordinary session, i find that the session returns a non-zero status (i
have no ~/.xsession file), and i get the XLogin ERROR dialogue box
requesting confirmation to abort.
all this confuses me beyond belief. i'm going to take some aspirin
now.
