Sorry for the delayed response -- I thought I had replied, but it looks
like I didn't actually do anything.
I've created a ticket in our bug tracker noting that we could add texmaker
to the software pre-installed on the cluster machines, at
https://athena10.mit.edu/trac/ticket/1542 .
It seems likely that this will be considered acceptable, but would take
weeks/months to work its way through the process.
