I updated my workstation this morning as instructed by the note on the chair.
I could not log in after this. The final result of attempts to log in
was a Macintosh-like dialog box indicated a non-zero exit status from
Xlogin, and giving me the single option to abort.
I learned that my dot files had been replaced. It is worthy of note
here that my dot files were pristine relase files and I had take great
care to put all customizations in .cshrc.mine and .login.mine .
My next tack was to log in on the console and move the new files out
of the way and the old files back. Now I can log in, but some of my
customizations were not taking place. My .login.mine has a number
of attach commands which didn't get executed. I don't have an Xsession
file.
What gives?
