In bugs[27055,27055,27057-27060], I wrote about the following message,
that I am now getting:

After that, behavior similar to the previously reported behavior started
happening.
Initial normal prompt:

User tty login@ idle JCPU PCPU what
[snip]
Initial second prompt:
[~ mrow]%
Prompt magically changes:
[mrow]:[11:06]:~
[mrow]:[11:07]:~
whoami reports the username of someone else who is logged in on the
machine (this person also got the initial message on login):
[mrow]:[11:08]:~ whoami
axs
[mrow]:[11:08]:~ [I typed pwd here, but it didn't show up]
/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/k/c/kchen
And then my prompt changed back.
[~ mrow]%
Then:
[~ mrow]% w
11:09am up 76 day(s), 17:46, 4 users, load average: 0.27, 0.32, 0.29
User tty login@ idle JCPU PCPU what

Anyway, the prompt seems to change back and forth a lot.
