Oof... this is an issue for bug-outland, actually.  It happens anytime
you have a space followed by tab-completing in /mit/outland/man/.  I
think the reason is that if you go there and ls -la, you'll notice a
very special messed up entry at the end of the list, that I think has
unprintable characters in it and is screwing up your terminal.

I'm looking into it, and will follow up with bug-outland shortly.
