I can't reproduce the problem- both of these put a runnable gnuplot on my
path for me... (both for Sun and Linux).

I suspect something wrong with your account- olc consultants should be able
to help you sort this out...

I made Athena 9.4 arch symlinks in both the gnuplot and gnuplot_v4.0
lockers, though they shouldn't be necessary...
