What were you trying to do?
     Play a CD using xmcd. 
What's wrong:
       No sound! 
What should have happened:
     Sound should have come out of either the built-in speaker or the headphone jack. Sadly, none did.

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
xmms's little waveform thingy showed that there wasn't actually any sound, which implies there's no audio cable connected to the CDROM drive. The workaround is to install xmms-cdread, but that still doesn't help with xmcd or gnome-cd or any of the other programs.
