When people see this, they should gdb attach to the gconfd-2 process
("gdb /usr/athena/libexec/gconfd-2 <pid>") and get a stack trace. If
gconfd-2 is not running or appears to be waiting at its main loop, get a
trace of activation-client.

activation-client is generally the first process in the login sequence
to write into the user's homedir (via gconfd-2), so this could be
indicative of a lingering AFS issue.
