Hi Joe,

As it turns out, this is not a bug in evolution. the behavior is
actually caused by the fact that outgoing.mit.edu is taking that long
to accept the mail message. Additionally, the problem is independant
of whether you use authenticated SMTP. When consulted about this
issue, postmaster noted that outgoing mail is now being scaned for
viruses and executable attachments which takes time, and the behavior
we are seeing is not considered an operational problem.

All of that said, we've implemented a work-around in athena 9.4.8.
Sendmail will accept the mail immediately, and then do the waiting for
you.

Thanks for taking the time to report the problem.
