Hi,

After further review and investigation, we have implemented a
work-around for this problem in Athena version 9.4 (due out in July).
The workstation you are using will accept the mail message
immediately (allowing nmh to return control to you) and will then
deliver the mail to outgoing.mit.edu in the background.
