What were you trying to do?
Cut and paste from evolution to anything (mostly to emacs)
What's wrong:
It ignores newlines and makes the formatting terrible.
What should have happened:
It should have preserved the linebreaks

Apparently it can be solved by upgrading to 1.4.6 or by updating gtkhtml to
a newer version.
