Thanks for reporting a second occurrence of this problem. I've looked
into the issue a bit more, and found that the damaging part--the removal
of files when rpmupdate removes old versions of packages--is easily
reproducible with stock Red Hat tools. I've filed a high-priority bug
report with Red Hat, visible at:
