Actually, this answer is slightly incorrect.

It is true that PostScript fonts cannot currently be previewed with
xdvi; however, the GNU documentation does not use PostScript fonts.
I believe it does use the standard "Computer Modern" fonts, but often
with scaling parameters for which we don't have bitmap files
available.  I don't think xdvi is capable of generating the bitmaps on
its own.

We will consider revising at some point in the future the list of
fonts and scaling parameters that are available.  This may get fixed
in the end-of-summer 6.3 release, but if not, the SIPB might be able
to get such a change into their font sets.
