You are correct -- j2sdk does not use alternatives.

It looks like j2sdk would only use about 36 MB of additional space
(remember that we can remove j2re if we install j2sdk).

Another argument in favor of (3) is that it would be more consistent
with Solaris, where we install the native sdk packages, which
contain appropriate symlinks in /usr/bin.

But, another argument against (3) is that, like j2re, it installs
into a version-dependent directory, which would be a bit of a
nuisance to maintain.
