That's actually not true; OpenAFS does support sysname lists (ted
implemented it):
brad-majors.mit.edu# fs sysname sun4x_59 sun4x_58
fs: new sysname list set.
brad-majors.mit.edu# fs sysname
Current sysname list is 'sun4x_59' 'sun4x_58'
I know Derrick (Brashear) fixed some bugs in it in ~recently, so I'm not
sure if we'd want to use it as-is, but we certainly could look into
setting the list to the same thing as $ATHENA_SYS_COMPAT if you'd like.
