I was trying to take text from a received email message
and paste it into emacs. Unfortunately, all the newlines got deleted.

Repeat by:

View a message in the display sub-window of Evolution.
(Content-Type: text/plain; CHARSET=us-ascii; FORMAT=flowed
may be required.)

Highlight a block of text.
Paste it into emacs.

Notice how the newlines all went away.
Notice also that sometimes words at newline boundaries in a paragraph
get smooshed together when a soft newline should have produced a space.
