Thanks reporting this; I just submitted a patch fixing this, although I
took a slightly different approach than you did. Regardless, the
problem is pretty clear now and you can expect it to be fixed in the
next patch release.
I've also submitted a patch adding the smtps port to the services file
on Solaris; that change should appear at the same time.
