Pollux seems to be operational now. I don't believe any data was
lost.
This looks like the weekly sunday-morning 4AM shutdown may have
provoked this; I suspect that the fileserver may not have been allowed
to shut down cleanly.
The bosserver then restarted the world. At this point, the salvager
either didn't run, or didn't fix everything, and the fileserver
refused to "attach" the volumes which were "damaged"; the volumes
which it did "attach" were made available for service; those it didn't
attach were left "off line"; I believe that roughly half the volumes
on Pollux were left offline.
Unfortunately, the log information from the time of the incident got
trashed (I stupidly restarted everything using the incantation in
/etc/rc.local, which truncates the log files). The salvager ran
cleanly to completion.
If something like this happens again, and Jeff is unreachable, try to
find me; calling me at home/leaving a message on my answering machine
is an entirely reasonable thing to do.
