You can set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable to
/usr/athena/lib/pkgconfig and you'll get the Athena libraries. Perhaps
that should be in the standard dotfiles.
(We don't build gtk 2 for Athena, incidentally; was this a gtk 1 program
using pkg-config?)
