What were you trying to do?
Do screen operations on various gnome-terminals on my screen
What's wrong:
Things get extremely slow, intermittently but frequently (like every
2-5 min.). Selecting text, changing window focus, screen redraw are
all affected. It can take 5-30 seconds for these operations to
complete. It usually takes 5 sec. or more to select a single line of text,
on a light load.
At the times when I've had this happen with top running, the
gnome-terminal process typically uses 30-50% or more of the cpu. This
drops way down (5% or less) when I'm not doing things that affect
terminals on my display.
The machine is a new Blade 150, newly installed at Athena 9.2.20. I've noticed
it on other Suns too, since 9.2 alpha actually. The problem was alleviated
somewhat since then, but never really went away completely. Currently it seems
to be worse on this machine than on other ones nearby.
What should have happened:
I've always thought this is almost always a pretty irrelevant question.
