This mail bounced, so I'm sending it again.
This is a follow up to a previous bug report I made few days ago concerning
weird colormap installation and color banding.
Well, after looking at it further, the colormap is getting installed
properly, however the bug seem to be that the megapel X servers only
have 16 shades per red, green and blue. In other words, the color
pallete is only 12 bits deep instead of a usual 24, and there are only
4096 colors to choose from! As graphics workstations go, this really
doesn't measure up. I am only getting 16 shades of grey (RG&B) instead
of 256 needed in my images and this is why I am getting such banding
and strange colormaps.
This is not good news since we plan to use these machines for image
processing and graphics here at the lab.
