What were you trying to do?
Using pdflatex to generate a document (mixed graphics and text).

What's wrong:
pdflatex is unable to find fonts when run, resulting in a file unreadable by
acrobat and missing all text when viewed in xpdf.

What should have happened:

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
I was able to work around this by copying the pdftex.cfg file
(/usr/athena/share/texmf/pdftex/config/pdftex.cfg) to my working directory
and commenting out the line "map pdftex.map", as apparently there is no
pdftex.map file. Running pdflatex then generates a good pdf (despite some
extra font warnings when running). It might be helpful to comment out this
line in /usr/athena/share/texmf/pdftex/config/pdftex.cfg itself, or at least
make this workaround known to people who have problems.

Thanks!
