Likely the right diagnosis, but the wrong cure...
The component registry files that prevent mozilla from running are:
/usr/athena/lib/mozilla/components/compreg.dat
/usr/athena/lib/mozilla/components/xpti.dat
These should be removed (as root). The next patch release will indeed
take care of this automatically.
The files Greg listed will also go away, so there is no harm in
removing them now; their removal fixes yet another mozilla problem.
