Subject: strange path-related launch problem with gathrun/attachandrun
Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 16:40:21 -0400
From: Alex T Prengel <alexp@MIT.EDU>
Hi,
We're running into a strange Mathematica launch problem involving
gathrun/attachandrun, and can't quite figure out what's going on.
It started with the bug report in bugs[23609]. We verified that we can
reproduce the problem. Typing:
gathrun math mathematica
Launches Mathematica (GUI), but trying to do almost any calculation
within the GUI results is the error reported there (sh: line 1: exec:
math: not found). This seems caused by /mit/math/arch/i386_linux24/bin
not being on the path; when we add it manually and restart, the
problem goes away. The question is why? We don't see the problem on
Suns; only Linux machines; we also don't see it when we run the TTY
version on Linux:
gathrun math math
works properly. Also, as the user notes, running from the command-line without
gathdir works (add math; mathematica). Note that we haven't made a
/mit/math/arch/i386_rh9 link, but I think this shouldn't be necessary- we
have lots of other lockers in the same situation and we don't run into
the problem there... any ideas much appreciated... and bear with us if we're
missing something obvious. Might there be a bug in gathrun or attachandrun?
Thanks,
Alex
