this one scared the hell out of me, so i asked brian how it ended up.
turns out that he was over quota, and jis' message in emacs was warning
him that the written file didn't match the buffer; he was supposed to
have a zero-length file. the message should be changed, to more precisely
describe what is happening: "saved file has length zero," or,
"save was unsuccessful;" y'know, something vague and cryptic, more like unix.
